::Movie:: Blood Diamond

I think the movie turned out better than I have expected and Leonardo has become such a great actor! (quoted from the LA Times):

Also noteworthy is DiCaprio's performance in the kind of good-bad guy roles Clark Gable used to knock off before breakfast. This is the new, mature Leo, first glimpsed in "The Departed," and he throws himself into the part with such conviction and skill he makes us believe in his character more than we otherwise might.

Right! I had tears in my eyes when I saw Leo calling Connelly ( Maddy Bowmen) with a GPS phone before he died . Awwwww... Danny >_<...... noooo....

After the movie, I told Stephanie and my guy friends I decided I don't want a diamond for my wedding. (well, not like anyone is buying me one any time soon anywayz... ) I don't know, I feel like this is the very least I can do for the people who are suffering in Africa.

This got me into thinking... what can us, the ordinary people, do to help make a difference in the world?

Climate change, pollution, global warming, child labor in third world countries, HIV babies, warfare in the Middle East, the list can go on and on.

I'm frustrated every time when I read about how Nike or other big company runs factories in the third world country and exploits labor, or worse, child labor. I will boycott Nike for awhile. But what good does a boycotting do? What will happen to those factory workers if Nike is losing business and closing down its production? How can they improve their living standard if they are being forced out of a job.

I don't have answer to these questions.

My college professor said most of us, the 20+ generation, are apathy towards our society. We lack interest in politics, foreign affairs and environmental issues. The only thing we read daily is celebrities gossip.

I stop reading news not because I stop caring about things going on around me. I stop because I'm frustrated when the news only tells you problems within our society but it doesn't say a thing about how we can slove the problems or what casuse them in the first place.

I see injustice. I see inequalities. It is happening every where, to everyone, at every minute.

But there is nothing I can do about it.

World Citizen

Soul andR&B?

「我是world citizen。」

Movie Review :: Rocky Return

Got free tickets to watch the premier for "Rocky Return"

The movie was better than I expected even though I felt asleep half way during the movie. The story is simple but I think the plot is well written. A 50+ yr old ex-World Championship, Rocky Balboa, comes out from retirement to step into the ring for one last time and faces the 22 yr old present World Championship Mason Dixon. The ending was as expected, Rocky endures and ties the game. A bit unbelievable, yet just believable enough.

I was surprised the movie got quite a few good quotes. Here's one,

Rocky: It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!

And I gotta give credit to Sylvester Stallone. I always assume action movie stars can't act but he is one exception. Now I'm interested in watching the whole Rocky series! LOL ;-)
